Quality Control Supervisor

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Quality Control Supervisor to join their dynamic team.

Job Requirements:
Education:

  • Matric
  • Tertiary Education (including Diplomas, Certificates, and Degrees)
  • NQF 4 Supervisory Management Qualification
  • Certificate in Quality Control

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years experience in the manufacturing industry

Competencies:
Knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge of the process, inclusive of equipment, raw materials, etc.
  • Relevant quality system and certification as required

Decision Making:

  • Responsible for quality-related issues linked to colour and product defects.

Responsibilities: 
Quality Control Planning

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures and protocols to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement, recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain quality control records, including documentation of test results, inspection reports, and corrective actions taken.

Quality Control Inspection

  • Apply the company’s quality principles and standards.
  • Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Conduct regular inspections of production processes, products, and materials to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of products to ensure they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and document non-conformance and implement corrective actions.

Personnel Management

  • Responsible for leading, motivating, training, and managing subordinates.
  • Responsible for managing employees in terms of attendance, timesheets, disciplinary code, policies and procedures and rostering of tea and lunch breaks.
  • Ensure that packers and operators record and report rejects and problems immediately.
  • Monitor production output in terms of job specifications, production plans, and machine specifications.
  • Ensure control and recording of output, downtimes and deviations.
  • Hold regular performance reviews to discuss performance against objectives and counselling employees where performance is not in line with the standards.
  • Motivate the team to develop with a focus on ongoing improvement. Implement good ideas, give credit where due, support, counsel and discipline where necessary. Administer return-to-work interviews.
  • Practical hands-on passing on of skill (“Show and do”).
  • Guide team to ensure that members deliver output and performance of acceptable standard of own accord.
  • Communicate and confirm values and goals and clarify roles on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactively communicate the consequences of misconduct to team members.
  • Conduct discipline and counselling where necessary, staying within the limits of orderly actions in terms of the disciplinary code.

Customer Service:

  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding product quality and provide resolutions to customer complaints
  • Collaborate with internal sales and sales teams to resolve issues related to product quality.

Reporting and Administration:

  • Ensure shift handover meeting takes place daily.
  • Ensure daily audits on quality / visual inspections and housekeeping take place.

Health and Safety :

  • Ensure and enforce that aspects in the area of responsibility conform to Health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the area of responsibility (e.g. ensure the cleanliness of assigned machines and areas).
  • Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
  • Report any accidents, incidents and near misses.

Food Safety System Certification (FSSC):

  • Food safety standards are site-specific, and at these sites, employees should:
    • Apply the site’s food safety principles and standards.
    • Report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager.
    • Comply with and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the company’s FSMS (Food Safety Management System).

Self-Development and Growth

  • Realistically assess own strengths and development areas and undertake actions to address weaknesses.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations and industry standards and implement changes as required.

General

  • Ensure the team knows what to do and where to find information if you are not available.
  • Inform yourself about and apply the company’s principles and standards.
  • Set an example and be a role model for your team and others in the way you work and behave.
  • The employee accepts that they may be required to carry out any other tasks as required by management based on operational requirements.
